Mars and Friends… aka “frenemies”
“Why can’t everyone just get along?!” Have you ever wondered why certain people in your soul tribe don’t get along so well, even when there is no plausible external reason otherwise? At least not to the ardent observers of the group dynamics. Mars relationship connections could be to blame! In the Destiny Card system, each of us has planetary connections with other people based on our birthdays. These connections rule the types of relationships we have with others. If we happen to have a Mars connection with someone we are in a romantic relationship with, it shows up as a high level of physical attraction, desire, and lust. If we have a Mars connection with a friend or neighbor, it could manifest as competition, aggression, jealousy, and animosity. Make love or war? Under the passionate intense energies of Mars, it could be both!
What is it about Mars connections with other people that creates strong emotional reactions in us? I recently had a Mars experience with another person in my life. We were Mars to each other, which meant the energies that we shared in the relationship were going to be intense. It is like having double of something. That is good if the energies are soft and flowy like Venus or expansive like Jupiter. But here we are talking about the fiery planet of war: irritation, arguments, aggression, and hatred are some of the descriptors that can occur from idle Mars energy. Mars creates strong feelings, and if those recipients of the energies are already Mars-ruled, say Aries or Scorpio, we are going to have an escalation of “planetary” proportions if you will.
At the time, I hadn’t ever considered how Mars would affect the friendship, as I tend to only look for Venusian energies coming into my field of awareness. Most of our close friends and cherished loved ones tend to have Venus, Moon, or Mercury connections; where we are sharing love, comfort, and great conversations about life and the values that bring us together or the ideas that light us up. We have emotional bonds together or mentally stimulating fellowships that provide a healthy foundation for the relationship.
Mars connections are different. Our Mars people can inspire us to action, lighting a fire within. This aggressive energy serves to drive our passions and spiritedness into physical movement and concerted initiative. We can unite our common ideologies and take them out into the world with stamina and vitality. However there is a huge downside. Mars needs to be harnessed productively or it quickly turns to conflict, heated arguments, competitive behaviors, and animosity towards the other person. Think about the movie, War of the Roses. They probably had mutual Mars connections. In fact, they probably had several Mars connections between them. Unbridled mutual Mars can lead to inevitable war, as the escalated energy created between two people has to be used constructively or it explodes.
If we want to make these types of connections successful, what’s the best way to handle this Martian energy? First, simply realizing this connection exists goes a long way towards to healing the relationship. If we know that the other person is going to stimulate, excite, or anger us, we can choose a different type of reaction. We can channel the energy between us by doing physical activity, working out or hiking together, sightseeing and traveling. We can start a business together, and channel that intense passion into a productive outlet. Anything but sitting around binge-watching movies on the sofa. Physical expression is the key to this unstoppable force.
The positive side of all of this is that Mars’ intense fiery energy can help us get going in life. When we are feeling uninspired, lackluster, or needing excitement in our lives, we can search for Mars connections in our lives to awaken our passion and personal energy levels. And that my friends, is how we best utilize the information of the Destiny Cards. To make our lives and relationships better, more productive, purposeful, with a dash of fun and excitement.
